Things to do
If you are looking for a quiet mountain retreat, this is it!
Tucked up high with a spectacular view, from the Higher Ground cabin you can grab your coffee, sit back and watch the morning fog roll across the surrounding mountains from the wrap around deck.
The last cabin on the road, you are free to wander down the road at your leisure, exploring the twists and turns of old logging roads. Don’t be surprised when you run into native wildlife; deer, wild turkey, chipmunks, and all kinds of birds frequent the area.
There is plenty of adventure just outside your door! There is a path leading to a nearby stream and waterfall just a short walk away. On your way up to the cabin, you will drive through a small valley with a small pond and swing under a huge tree for the kids (or the kids at heart!).
If you are up for a challenge, you can hike right up the mountain behind the house to more old logging roads and walk or run them to your heart’s content. There is so much to do or see, you never need to leave the area!

Soco Falls, a 120-foot waterfall, can be found just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, not far from Maggie Valley. The double waterfalls are quite a sight, following a steep trail ending at an observation deck. For the more adventurous, you can hike down to the falls following a steep and slippery trail with the help of ropes for support (like I said, adventurous!).

The Blue Ridge Parkway, offering one of the most popular scenic drives in the nation, is just at the bottom of the hill. You can head East towards Asheville for the highest elevation and, in our opinion the most beautiful section of the Parkway. There is so many important things to see on the Parkway, it’s best to check out this Travel Guide for the most up-to-date info!
